So much to blog, so little time…

I realize I don’t have too many blog followers, but since I hadn’t posted anything since July, I thought it high time that I did!

This year has been just crazy in so many ways.  I never dreamed that my little headshot photography business would turn into a Surprise Proposal extravaganza!  I’ve done over 20 surprise proposal shoots, and 9 weddings.  The weddings are small Central Park affairs (with one exception) but still…it’s more than I ever dreamed!

So, I am basically finding my feet.  Trying to balance still being a waitress 3 nights a week with my budding photography career.  I’m figuring out my workflow and finding out what works and what doesn’t.  It is sometimes REALLY overwhelming and a bit scary to be honest, but I’m also excited!  REALLY excited.  And happy, truly happy with how my life is unfolding.  To think that I could possibly earn a living doing what I love to do is something I started to think would never happen.

To just make things so much MORE exciting, I got engaged as well!  Yay me!  I spent an entire year shooting surprise proposals or “photographing the love” as I like to call it and then BOOM it happens to me!  Everyone inevitably asks “who shot YOUR proposal?”  There was no photographer hiding in the bushes.  Honestly, it was the most perfect moment ever.  Special and perfect, just me and him. Exactly how I wanted it to be.  And I took photos with my iPhone afterwards!

I will be blogging many of my shoots from this past year in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned! I promise I wont wait another 4 months!

Here’s a little taste of what’s in store…

Lunch with London

I went to Derek and Lesley’s house to have an afternoon of catching up, lunch (Derek’s famous tacos) and of course photos of London.  He is getting so big!  So, so cute I can hardly stand it.  Here are a few pics from the afternoon.

First up, me and the little guy.

He had just sneezed…awww!

Yum…

Time for London to have lunch

Look at those eyes!!!

Rik and Rose: Just Because

A couple months ago, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Rik and Rose.  They were celebrating their 11 year wedding anniversary and Rik surprised Rose with a Just Because photo session.  They hadn’t had any good photos taken of them in years so he thought this would be the perfect gift.  We started in Central Park and worked our way downtown, through Times Square and finally over the East River into Brooklyn Heights where we finished the day.  It was an absolute blast.  They were up for anything and were just as sweet as can be.  Watching them interact with eachother was like watching a couple of newlyweds, not a couple that was about to celebrate 11 years of marriage!  Thanks you guys for making my job really easy and such a joy.

Here are some of my MANY favorites from the shoot.  As usual, click on the photo to make it bigger.

I LOVED when they made each other laugh…which was a lot!

Are they gorgeous or what?

Again with the laughter…yay!

Their first trip on the New York Subway…

Ahhh, Times Square.  This is actually the awning of a McDonalds.  Fancy, eh?

I love that they are in the middle of crazy, busy Times Square and yet seem completely alone.

Manhattan Bridge as seen from Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn Heights.

I heart this photo so much.

Rocco and Erin: Surprise Proposal at Belvedere Castle, NYC

Spring had finally sprung in NYC.  The sky was bright blue and the sun was blazing.  The trees were just getting their leaves and the flowers were a rainbow of pinks, yellows and purples.  It was the perfect day for a proposal in Central Park.  Rocco hired me to document his surprise proposal to his lovely girlfriend Erin and I arrived early at Belvedere Castle to await their arrival.  This was my first proposal at the castle and I was thrilled with the location!  So beautiful.  Rocco and Erin are a super couple and I am so happy that I was the gal who got to photograph their LOVE!  Here are some of my favorites from the shoot…

As always, if you click on the photo, it’ll get bigger!

As I was walking around trying to be subtle, I nearly missed the proposal!

The Big Reveal

I heart this shot so much.

This is very much “them”.  I love it.

Matt and Emily : Surprise Proposal in Central Park

Matt emailed me asking for my help to document his proposal to the lovely Emily.  Of course I was more than happy to oblige!  A beautiful spring day and a happy couple, what more could a photographer ask for?  They are a super couple and I am so pleased that I was a part of their awesome day.  Here are some of my favorites…well…a LOT of my favorites actually.

If you click on the photo, it’ll get bigger!

A candid before the big moment….

He had planned on proposing on Bow Bridge, but a huge throng of tourists arriving changed his mind!  I, of course, just followed his lead.  I think he picked the PERFECT spot.  Well done, Matt!

Emily’s reaction as I’m revealed…priceless.

The pink, spring buds on the trees in Central Park made a beautiful backdrop.

This street shot is to die for!  I love it so much.  That cab driver making a left in front of me needs a big hug for adding even more awesomeness.

What a gorgeous couple!

Jayne and John: Engaged!

Here are some of my favorite shots from a recent engagment shoot I did in Central Park, NYC.  Jayne and John were an absolutely lovely couple and such fun to shoot!

If you click on the photos, they’ll get bigger!

A little added pizazz with some off camera lighting courtesy of the fabulous Ira Monko.

Jayne is a model…it shows!  She’s really stunning.  And sooo natural.

More Ira lighting magic…

One of my very favorites

Stewart and Klara : Surprise Proposal In Central Park

Back in March, I had the pleasure of shooting a surprise proposal for Stewart.  He and his girlfriend Klara live in Barcelona, Spain and flew into NYC for a one day visit on route to the west coast for a vacation.  Little did she know that the stop in New York would include a proposal of marriage and a photography session with moi!  They are just a lovely couple and I am so happy I was able to be a part of this special occasion.

Here are a few of my favorites from the day.  If you click on the photo, it’ll get bigger!

The proposal…

A shot like the one below is rare to come by since there are always so many people in Central Park.  This was a Monday afternoon though, so I was thrilled to take advantage of the scenery sans a multitude of tourists!

Getting on this rock was quite a task!  I was so proud of them for hanging in there for the sake of the “art”

Jose and Dolores : A Surprise Proposal Photo Shoot in NYC

A few weeks ago, I received the most heartfelt email from a man named Jose.  This was a man truly in love and he told me the whole story.  Jose and his girlfriend Dolores were high school sweethearts in Mexico and dated for 5 years.  They went their separate ways and then, 5 years later, got back together.  He had planned to ask her to marry him, but work transferred him to Dallas, Texas.  So there he was in Texas, and she is a wedding planner in Mexico City.  After much hassle and heartache, her visa was accepted and Jose could finally propose like he had planned to so long ago.  He arranged for Dolores to fly into Dallas airport, but then Jose surprised her with a trip to NYC!  They immediately got on a plane to New York.  A limousine was waiting to take them directly to Central Park.  One of Dolores’ favorite movie’s is Great Expectations.  Knowing this, Jose decided to propose under Glade Arch which is featured in the film.  Jose wanted me there to secretly catch the moment in photographs.  So, in my stealth-like way, I photographed the whole thing.  They are every bit as sweet and wonderful as I knew they would be.  I am so happy that Jose sent me that email and that I was able to share that special day with them.

This is why I love my job!  (PS: you can click on the actual photo to make it bigger…)

I totally thought she knew about the whole thing when I took this shot.  They were both looking right at me smiling (and I was pretty far away from them at this point).  I quickly turned the other way and pretended to be very interested in some tree or flower or something just to throw her off!

The proposal…

She was so excited!  Here I believe she’s checking out her bling!

Little London

All my love and congratulations go to my friends Derek and Lesley who are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy named London!  He was born on April 7th at 5:39am.  He was a couple weeks early, but everyone is healthy and happy.  I was out of town when he was born, and FINALLY had the chance to meet him and catch up with his parents today.  Just two weeks old today, he is soooooo cute.  His Aunt Sharon will be spoiling him for sure!

Of course, I couldn’t NOT bring my camera!  Here are a few shots I took this afternoon of the family.

This first shot I can’t take credit for…Mommy took it while I held the little buddy.

Ten little toes

Looking at Daddy!

Smile or digestion?  I say smile!

Much love…

Stealing the remote, just like Daddy :)

I think this is my favorite shot of the day.

Mommy hand and baby hand.

Just putting it in perspective.

The happy family!

Edwin and Flora : Surprise Proposal

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Edwin and Flora.  Edwin surprised Flora with not only a marriage proposal, but also a photo shoot with yours truly!  I was there to document the proposal itself along with a few shots of the happy couple afterwards.  Here are some of my favorites…

This first shot is a candid I took as they were walking around Bethesda Fountain.  Edwin and I had already exchanged knowing glances and I tried hard to be stealth-like!

The proposal….She said yes, of course!

I am revealed!
