My wonderful friends Lesley and Derek are expecting their first child in April. Today we did a bit of a maternity photo shoot. Lesley looks soooo amazing it is out of control! I am so ridiculously happy for them both. I actually felt the baby kick and promptly burst into tears of joy! A special thank you to Veronica for letting me take over her beautiful apartment! I got home from work tonight and stayed up (way too late…again) working on the photos. I was having too much fun to stop. Here are a few that I love.
The first 3 shots are pertaining to Lesley’s “craving” of cereal!

A couple weeks ago I met this gorgeous little boy. His name is Bradley James Pelc and he is the 7 week old son of my best friend Angela. Talk about cute! It’s seriously out of control how charming and adorable he is. I am so happy for Angela and her husband Scot. Bradley did me the great honor of taking a nap on my chest and I couldn’t have been happier! Angela and I have been friends for 22 years *gasp*! It’s hard to believe that now my Roomie is a Mommy. I love you, Roomie, and I love Bradley too! I can’t wait to see you again.
Here are some photos I took during my visit.

Look at that face!

I don’t think he could possibly be more charming!

Here are a few shots from a recent headshot shoot with my friend Mr Sanders! We had a fantastic time despite the cold! These were taken In Brooklyn Heights in and around DUMBO.

Here he is at his most serious….

And these are his “editorial” shots…I think Tyra would be proud of his intense eyes.

Yesterday was Halloween, but it also happened to be the day when this amazing couple said “I Do”. They had a beautiful ceremony at 6pm in Central Park’s Ladies Pavillion. It was getting dark pretty fast so we met a bit early to get a few shots of just the two of them before sunset. Here are a few we took before the ceremony… More coming soon!

So, I came home from work tonight at the fairly reasonable hour of 12am (Otto night shift. Monday is “Sing-A-Long with Mario Batali” night. Best rendition of ‘That’s Amore’ wins a shot of Grappa…I’m kidding, but oh how I wish I weren’t) and started working on some shots I took this summer at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Mainly because I wanted something new to put on the blog, but also because these past two months have been full of distractions resulting in me not shooting nearly as much as I should have. I needed to get focused and Photoshop puts me in my happy place. Since I was editing shots of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, I wanted to get all clever and find a quote relating to bridges as the inspiration for this entry. After the obligatory Google search, I found a whole bunch of quotes but this one in particular got to me.
“Sometimes, if you aren’t sure about something, you just have to jump off the bridge and grow your wings on the way down” - Danielle Steel
Well said, Danielle. When I decided to start my photography business, this is exactly how I thought of it. Self-doubt, nerves, lack of confidence….all of these things are the demons that, even now, sometimes rear their ugly, stupid little heads. It’s what can prevent you from jumping off the proverbial bridge, following your dreams, and having faith that you can actually grow those big ‘ol wings to keep you afloat. It can be a daunting experience to change directions in life. To try something new. The most challenging things we do in life generally end up being the most rewarding and worthwhile. In writing this blog post, my brain is now inundated with “inspirational” quotes aplenty…No time like the present, Just do it, Shit or get off the pot, and finally the wise words of Yoda, “Do or do not. There is no try” .
I’m still growing my wings, but every day they’re getting bigger, thus preventing me from drowning in the East River!

The Brooklyn Bridge is like a camera magnet. No matter how many shots I have of this bridge, I’ll always take more! This was me practicing at getting that cool star-burst effect with the sun. A small aperture (mine was set at f22) will produce this.

Looking up at the Manhattan Bridge at a jaunty angle.

Lesley is one on my best friends in the whole world. I met her 13 years ago in London, England. We were both attending Mountview Theatre School and happened to be staying in the same Bed and Breakfast. She was literally the first person I met. She opened the door as I was on the doorstep and said “HI, I’m Lesley, are you going to Mountview?” I said “Yes! I’m Sharon, nice to meet you.” Then she said “Want to go get pizza?” Well, anyone who knows me knows that an offer of pizza is pretty much all I need! The rest is history. We’ve been close friends ever since. On numerous occasions, we’ve been told we look like sisters. Well, if I had a sister, I’d want her to be just like Lesley. She is absolutely always there when I need her. Unfortunately it always seems as though I need her more than she needs me! But I’ll tell you what, as soon as she DOES need me, she will want for nothing.
I recently took new headshots for her. We shot in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) area of Brooklyn. It was windy and kinda cold, but I think she knocked it out of the ballpark. She is still trying to pick her favorites, but in the meantime, here are a few of mine.

Hello all!
I am venturing into the wonderful world of blogging. Here is where you can follow the trials and tribulations of Sharon Bushman (that’s me!)… photographer.
About a year ago, I started my own photography business. I have since realized that having a blog is a beneficial and necessary component and I figured it was about time to get this ball rolling.
I actually have a photography blog already which you can browse through HERE, but it’s not a traditional type of blog so much as a photo-a-day portfolio of sorts. It’s where I display not only my professional work but also my everyday, just for me shots as well. Aminus3 is the host and there is a fantastic community of photographers there from pro to hobbyist. I would highly recommend it to any photographer.
